Our committees accomplish great things for our local Chapter and for
ALA. If you are a member and are interested in getting more involved in
our Chapter, a committee is a great place to start. See the descriptions
below and contact one of the committee chairpersons for more
information.
One of the ALA's goals is to increase the visibility
and credibility of the Association through liaison with the bar and
other law-related associations at the local, state and national levels.
The Bar Liaison Committee is the conduit to the Florida Bar where the
Chairman of the Committee sits on the Practice Management and
Development Section of the
Florida Bar as an affiliate member and the ALA's representative.
The Committee facilitates the mutual exchange of speakers for seminars,
articles
for newsletters and other community building activities with local and
voluntary bar associations.
Benefits/Compensation Survey
The benefits and compensation survey is a valuable tool
for administrators. Each year, the committee mails, emails, and
posts on the chapter's web site, a questionnaire regarding benefits and
compensation for all classes of law firm employees. The survey
results are then tabulated by Kaufman,
Rossin & Co. and provided free of charge to participants.

Education
The Education Committee of the South Florida Chapter
supports the development of new courses and methods for higher legal
education. The committee will focus on strengthening the legal
awareness and knowledge of Legal Administrators and other Managers in the
field through organizing various conferences and seminars on significant
topics. Our first seminar was held on October 18, 2002. A
guest speaker was present to discuss the importance of COBRA compliance.
We are currently working on our second seminar tentatively scheduled for
March 2003.
The Vice President - Membership is responsible for
sending out national and South Florida chapter membership packets
for the purpose of recruiting new members; maintaining the South Florida
Chapter membership database; supplying members with labels for mailings;
and sending out the chapter newsletter.
The Network is the newsletter published by the Chapter
to provide information for the education and benefit of legal
administrators, law office managers, managing partners of law firms, and
others interested in law firm management. The members of the
committee are responsible for procuring articles, photographs, and
advertising for the newsletter and for production and distribution.
Past Presidents
The past presidents committee is
focused on offering mentoring to new members and assisting the chapter
in special requests.
Photographer/Historian
The chapter photographer/historian documents and
photographs all chapter events.
Placement
The chapter offers a job bank
service. A member who is looking for work can submit his or her resume
to the job bank, Any employer can submit an open position to the job
bank. Positions notices will be advertised on the list serve unless the
employer requests otherwise. Administrator resumes will be
forwarded to any potential employer also.
Programs
Public Relations
This committee concentrates on getting luncheon notices and
educational seminar notices placed in legal, business and local
newspapers. We hope to promote interest in our association by
announcing our speakers and their topics, not only as a reminder to
current ALA members, but with the further intent of drawing attention to
the educational value offered by ALA in hopes of attracting new members.
Scholarship
The South Florida Chapter Association of Legal
Administrators has supported its scholarship program targeting
graduating high school students and college students for the past 28
years. This program is funded by contributions from various law firms in
our local ALA chapter.
Qualifying students are awarded up to $1,000 per
school year. Recipients are eligible to receive continued aid for up to
a four-year period. To
qualify, students must (i) have at least a 3.0 grade point average, (ii)
demonstrate financial need for the scholarship, and (iii) use the award
for the payment of tuition and/or books.
Vendor Relations/Advertising
The Vendor Relations / Advertising Committee is
responsible for advertising opportunities in the chapter's newsletter,
"The Network", which is published six times per year.
